carly-makeupMy name is Carly Paige; I am 26 years old and live in Montreal, Canada.  Since an early age I always loved playing with makeup.  So, as you can imagine my favourite holiday has always been Halloween!  Next to makeup, movies are a huge passion of mine, so I was thrilled when I was accepted into the Concordia University Film Studies program and considered becoming a writer/director.  After graduation, I still couldn’t decide on my place in the film world.   It was during an episode of The Walking Dead that the inspiration struck me to do special effects makeup for movies, combining my two loves!

After investing in some face paint and liquid latex, I quickly fell in love with this art form. Growing up in a household of extremely creative and talented people, my father a musician and graphic designer, my mother a painter and actress, art has always been around me. My parents have always been my greatest role models and I tried everything they do.  Growing up I learned piano, taught myself guitar, learned some graphic design (I make the best birthday cards), took some acting classes, and also tried painting. All of these things were fun, but not something I truly loved.  It was the combination of all this creativity that brought me to makeup, and more specifically special effects makeup.

Everything my family and I did together growing up turned into an art project.  To this day, I have never owned a store bought Halloween costume because together we always made them.  On rainy days (if my eyes weren’t glued to the TV) we would pull out the video camera and make little movies. We either acted in them ourselves or created animations using household items.  Everything we did was some form of art.  Even making breakfast Sunday mornings, our pancakes were never the typical round shape, my father used to make them much more amusing.

I live and breathe art, it’s in my blood.  It may have taken 25 years for me to realize that makeup is my absolute passion, but if it wasn’t for trying everything else I might have not discovered this.  When it comes to makeup, the possibilities are endless.  Makeup is known to most of the world as a way of enhancing your natural beauty.  I believe it is so much more. Makeup is… art, magic, my creative outlet, and my therapy.  No matter what is troubling me or how much pain I might be in, once there is a brush and makeup paint in my hand, and a face to draw on, nothing else in the world matters.  This is my way of expressing myself and embracing my silly nature.  I’ve always enjoyed doing imitations and making people laugh, so this is another way I can show the world how animated I can be.

3 Thoughts to “Carly Paige”

  1. I was very intrigued when I saw the CBS news bit about you and a little proud as well. I always like to see “canuks” make good especially in the US, I have always been interested in outrageous make-up and from what I’ve seen you could have raised the spirit of Lon Chaney and it would give you a loud huzzah! Your work is extremely creative and think your future is assured, but unfortunately maybe not in Canada.

    Regards and GOOD LUCK,
    Noel Noren

  2. Carly,
You are very good at what you do. Way to go…. You are an inspiration to all of us who want to follow our dreams. By the way…of all the faces you have put on, I like the one you had on for CBS news the best.

    Carly,

I too think your artistry is magnificent. The detail of the transformations is truly remarkable. What I would like to say is that your are quite breath taking in beauty personally as well. I would love to see some more of your artwork beauty but your physical beauty as well. Good luck with your venture, I would love to follow your progress.

    Sincerely,
    Nick
